Bathrooms have become a huge political battleground in America. On Wednesday, the Trump administration took its first major anti-LGBTQ policy action — by rescinding a guidance that protected transgender students from discrimination in federally funded schools and, most controversially, asked schools to let trans students use the bathrooms and locker rooms that correspond with their gender identity. It was the bathroom portion that made the guidance so controversial among conservative lawmakers, inspiring states to file lawsuits against the Obama administration and, eventually, leading the Trump administration to rescind the guidelines.
